Earn money by spreading Firefox

Tuesday, November 29th, 2005

Google Adsense has made Firefox referrals now available also internationally. Ok, so what does this mean? It means that you can put an adsense referral link to your webpage and you get a one dollar each time some windows user downloads Firefox browser via that link. You need Google adsense account for that of course. If you want to promote Firefox more efficiently, you should check www.explorerdestroyer.com. Ok… now everyone, please download the Firefox via my site. Link is there on the right sidebar… ;)

13 good reasons to switch from IE to Firefox

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2005

Ok… since there isn’t too much time left before Firefox 1.5 will be released, I thought it might be nice to go through some good reasons to switch from Internet Explorer to Firefox. www.killbillsbrowser.com provides just that. The reasons listed there shouldn’t bee taken too seriously, but there is a point there. ;)

For website/blog owners in US I’d like to note that there is a real reason to start converting people using Firefox since using Google Adsense it is possible to earn a dollar each time someone installs a Firefox through your site. Unfortunately for now this only works for US residents. For others I recommend registering on spreadfirefox.com.

Finally is has arrived

Thursday, November 10th, 2005

Now I finally got it. I have to say that I’m really impressed how easy it is to use. The start-up wizard did pretty much everything I needed and I got Internet connection up right away. It’s a shame that I can’t use the WLAN at the office because of the VPN, but with 3G it worked also nicely.

Here is a photo of it on my desk. Sorry about the quality, but my hands were sort of shaking because of the excitement.

My blog is worth of nearly $3000

This was quite interesting news. According to Business Opportunities Weblog my blog is worth nearly $3000. Anyone interested? I sort of could use the money. ;)

Nokia going open source

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2005

Today Nokia opened site called opensource.nokia.com. There isn’t much new on the site, since most of the stuff that is actually open source on that site has been that for some time already. Like for example Nokia’s Sofia SIP stack has been available already from sourceforge.net.

On the projects page, you can see the list of “open source” projects by Nokia. I wrote the open source in quotes since not all projects on the site are yet open source. Anyhow it’s really nice to see stuff like Python for Series 60 there so probably it will be soon open source as well.

Another interesting project is Series 60 OSS Browser. It’s still under development, but let’s hope we’ll get a decent browser for series 60 some day. Ok, ok…. Opera is quite good as well, but getting an open source browser for my phone would be too good to be true. ;)

Nokia 770 is shipping soon

Friday, October 21st, 2005

At least that is what they say on their site. For those who don’t know Nokia 770 is a Internet tablet that runs on Linux. It has WLAN connectivity, so you are able to browse the web and listen to Internet radio. So far you are not able to use it for VoIP to make calls over Internet, but that will happen in the beginning of the next year.

The Nokia 770 Internet Tablet’s software is upgradeable and currently runs on the Linux-based Internet Tablet 2005 software edition. There is a planned launch next year of an operating system upgrade – the Internet Tablet 2006 software edition – that will support additional services, including Internet telephony (VoIP) and Instant Messaging.

The price in Finland for this beauty is €369,00, which I think is a bit too high. Anyway… looks like I really have to start saving money for this one. Me wants it… :)

Star Wreck ready for downloading

Saturday, October 1st, 2005

If you are not yet familiar with the movie Star Wreck i recommend you visit their site right away. This is a sci-fi movie made by couple of Finnish guys mostly in their living room. Yeah yeah… doesn’t sound too promising, but they have been making it for sever years. Anyway the final movie is now available for downloading from their site. I’d recommend that you download it even for the reason that it’s at least one movie that you are allowed to download without beeing afraid of getting lawsuits. Check it out…

Mozilla Firefox 1.5 Beta released

Friday, September 9th, 2005

Mozilla has released first beta of their new Firefox version 1.5. The final version is scheduled later this year.

Version 1.5 will include features such as:

  • improved software update system
  • faster back and forward navigation
  • a feature for clearing private browsing data
  • drag-and-drop reordering of browser tabs
  • a redesigned Options/Preferences window
  • better popup blocking

Web standards support is also improved, with support for Scalable Vector Graphics, JavaScript 1.6 and more CSS.

Features are looking good. Hopefully this version will make more IE users to swap to Firefox so that web developers can really start taking the advantage of the new web standards.

Firefox 1.5 Beta 1 can be downloaded from here. And remember that for now it is for testing purposes only.

Google Maps from New Orleans

Monday, September 5th, 2005

As in my previous post I mentioned about photos from New Orleans disaster appearing on Flickr, now also Google Maps is showing what has happened there via satellite images. Google Maps has a special Katrina button for New Orleans area. The new satellite images were taken on Wednesday, August 31st.

That superdome isn’t looking that super anymore.
