Hard Rock Hallelujah

Jiihaa! Congratulations Lordi for winning the Eurovision Song contest . They really put up a show that made the other countries performances look pathetic (sorry for saying this, but it is true). Lordi literally set the stage on fire.

Sorry IE users

Wednesday, April 19th, 2006

I was just browsing through the statistics of my site using Google Analytics and was pleasantly surprised that 60 per cent of the visitor of my site were using Mozilla Firefox. Of course more users all the time are moving from IE to other browsers, but this number felt like too good to be true. Once I opened my site with IE, I understood the reason.

Recently I moved all the images on my blog to Flickr to save bandwidth. Then I also changed the width of the images and for some reason it totally messed up the site for IE. It’s no wonder since we all know how well IE handles CSS etc. Well at first I thought that IE users get what they’ve asked for, but now I’ve edited the site so that it works also with IE. Sorry IE users… I’ll try my best to support you from now on.

A good day for me and my 770

Wednesday, March 29th, 2006

Today I participated in a day long seminar and I knew that the location would not have a open WLAN access so I didn’t even bother to bring my laptop with me. For the first time I decided to take my 770 with me, since I could check my RSS feeds and read my personal email with it using 3G. I thought that it would be better than nothing. It turned out to be a lot more.

While others were struggling with their Windows XPs and bluetooth modem connections, I already had checked my emails and was reading through today’s new blog posts via Bloglines. 3G connectivity with the 770 hasn’t failed me once and the device is instantly ready to be used. I like it… I like it alot. ;)

I had also read about the application called Xournal and decided to give it a try. It is still rather slow, but somewhat usable for taking quick notes. I can’t wait for it to develop a bit further. This is definitely the kind of application that Nokia should have included in 770, not just the stupid and useless sketch and notes utilities.

So far I’ve just been hacking around with 770 at home or office, but this experience encouraged me to carry it along with me all the time. The day got a really nice ending when I was travelling home from the seminar and was able to write some emails in the train. And the battery lasted all day long. Well, battery indicator had one bar left when I arrived home… but hey, that was enough. ;)

So this is Christmas

Friday, December 23rd, 2005

Today is 23th of December and the last day at work before my tiny three day long Christmas holiday. Feels nice since it is sort of the only holiday I’ll have this winter. Today I’m heading up north to meet my big sister and her family and I’ll spend my Christmas over there. She doesn’t have an Internet connection, which is nice because it sort of forces me to stay away from computers and stuff. Well I’ll have my Nokia 770 with me, but that is only for emergencies. ;)

Anyhow, nice Christmas to everyone and see you again next week.

PS. Here is a sort of Christmas picture of my two dogs, Niilo and Oiva. People who know Finnish can also check their blog.

Merry Christmas!

Do you feel lucky, punk?

Thursday, December 22nd, 2005

Yesterday I went with my colleagues from work to blow of some steam at a shooting range called West Shooters. The best part was when I got to shoot with a .44 Magnum. Yeah the same gun that Dirty Harry has. It was great fun. Anyway, I have to admit that I’m not really a too much of a shooter and pretty much did not hit anything. But I was good enough to hit five shots out of six to the target. A bit high though… I wonder why. ;)

A good way to end a post like this is a quote from Harry Callahan himself:

“Ah Ah, I know what you’re thinking. ‘Did he fire six shots or only five?’ Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I’ve kinda lost track myself. But being this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you’ve got to ask yourself one question: ‘Do I feel lucky?’ Well, do ya, punk?”

New version of Openwengo supports also video

Wednesday, December 14th, 2005

Openwengo has released new version of their open source SIP VoIP client. The new version is now more than plain voice, it now includes also support for video. Another bigger improvement in my opinion is that now you can use it with any SIP service. Earlier it was closed to the openwengo network only. I tested the latest Openwengo Windows version with my setup of SER and Asterisk echo test and it worked perfectly. User interface is still quite heavily customized only for wengo service, but it is still great to see nice looking and functioning open source SIP client. Of course also Linux version exists. Interesting to see how this develops.

Finally is has arrived

Thursday, November 10th, 2005

Now I finally got it. I have to say that I’m really impressed how easy it is to use. The start-up wizard did pretty much everything I needed and I got Internet connection up right away. It’s a shame that I can’t use the WLAN at the office because of the VPN, but with 3G it worked also nicely.

Here is a photo of it on my desk. Sorry about the quality, but my hands were sort of shaking because of the excitement.

My blog is worth of nearly $3000

This was quite interesting news. According to Business Opportunities Weblog my blog is worth nearly $3000. Anyone interested? I sort of could use the money. ;)

Nokia 770 in stock!

Friday, November 4th, 2005

So the 770 is now in stock and ready for order at least in Finland. I made the order and now the timer is ticking. When will it arrive… Delivery time is supposed to be 3-4 days, but lets see.

Nokia 770 is shipping soon

Friday, October 21st, 2005

At least that is what they say on their site. For those who don’t know Nokia 770 is a Internet tablet that runs on Linux. It has WLAN connectivity, so you are able to browse the web and listen to Internet radio. So far you are not able to use it for VoIP to make calls over Internet, but that will happen in the beginning of the next year.

The Nokia 770 Internet Tablet’s software is upgradeable and currently runs on the Linux-based Internet Tablet 2005 software edition. There is a planned launch next year of an operating system upgrade – the Internet Tablet 2006 software edition – that will support additional services, including Internet telephony (VoIP) and Instant Messaging.

The price in Finland for this beauty is €369,00, which I think is a bit too high. Anyway… looks like I really have to start saving money for this one. Me wants it… :)
